Position: Program Officer – Graphic Design and Marketing
Young America’s Foundation has an immediate opening for a program officer with an emphasis in graphic design. Seeking a versatile team member who understands both creative visual design and marketing strategy. Responsibilities include managing/ creating/refining design and concepts of promotional material, ensuring the visual appearance of organization in print, online, and public is of the highest quality, and developing marketing strategies. Applicant must understand that creative design and visuals are primarily to support communication of content/text, not compete with or distract from it.
Please note, most of the organization’s products/publications must be designed from scratch; the individual in this position will be responsible for creating—from start to finish—many flyers, posters, publications etc. Outside vendors are used mainly to print/produce a finished product—not create it.
The ideal candidate will have non-profit and graphic design experience along with a strong interest in promoting conservative ideas to young people. An established portfolio of creative marketing materials is preferred. Other qualifications: training and/or experience working with creative design programs, team-player, ability to manage multiple projects, able to take direction, work independently, visually astute. Applicant must have excellent oral, written, and organizational skills. Outstanding copyediting skills and a degree in graphic design/visual arts are a plus. Responsibilities include:
Creative design (desktop publishing/graphic design) for many of the group’s documents, publications and advertisements (such as Libertas magazine, posters, brochures, newsletters, proposals, greeting cards, select website graphics, etc.) Duties include conceptualizing and brainstorming creative materials; format, layout, and design of creative materials; working and negotiating with various vendors to produce finished product
Assist with production of program related materials, particularly in regards to visual representation and production (flyers, posters, books, bumper stickers, buttons, placards, t-shirts, proposals, etc.)
Coordinating and managing the Foundation’s general marketing strategies including those for print, online, and word of mouth campaigns
Stay informed of current marketing and visual trends in the Conservative Movement and greater business society; continued forward thinking in regards to Foundation’s marketing efforts
Working at/on and organizing various selected educational programs, ensuring visual representation of events is high quality for television, still cameras, and attendees
Bid and negotiate with vendors to produce many of the organization’s print pieces
Buy and negotiate advertisement space for various print and online campaigns
Develop and manage products for online webstore using store back-end
Research and acquire stock/historic photography for use in publications; hire and instruct photographers at Foundation events
Network with other similar positions in the Conservative Movement; build relationships with individuals and groups
Handle technical and computer troubleshooting, particularly in regards to visual needs (i.e. PowerPoint presentations, etc.)
Requirements include:
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a field related to graphic design and/or visual arts
Good comprehension of desktop design principles; must understand that creative design and visuals are primarily to support communication of content/text, not compete with or distract from it
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, GoLive, Acrobat) and/or similar programs; experience with Adobe InCopy is a plus
Grasp of marketing strategies and concepts; eagerness to learn more if needed
Know how of sales tactics, headline writing, and copywriting; eagerness to learn more if needed
Understanding of website design and management
Basic-to-intermediate HTML skills required
Well versed with computers; knowledge of both Mac and PC environments a plus
Experience with video and/or audio production a plus
