Job Summary
The Media Coordinator is a key member of YAF’s Communications Team, elevating the work of YAF and its student activists by driving media coverage and inserting YAF’s voice into the broader news cycle. The Media Coordinator will work closely with YAF students, key members of the media, and the Office of the President.
Responsibilities
Draft regular, compelling posts for YAF’s The New Guard to inform readers and key stakeholders of key YAF happenings, successes, and events
Work with YAF students to help them tell their stories in guest posts on The New Guard
Review course catalogs, commencement speakers, and other activities at key schools and report on ideological disparities annually
Develop close relationships with key media outlets and reporters to land regular coverage of the Foundation, its programs, and other activities
Proactively pitch YAF stories and leaders to capitalize on relevant national conversations
Coordinate interviews and media hits for relevant YAF staff members
Seek out opportunities to pitch profile-type stories about YAF and its activities
Respond quickly to changing news cycles to position YAF as the authoritative voice on the rising generation and the realities on college and high school campuses
Stay updated with industry trends and the best practices in news and public relations to drive innovation and continuous improvement
Engagement in and awareness of YAF’s ongoing events, programs, and goals to ensure timely and relevant stories, coverage, and media attention
Assist with YAF programs, events, and special projects as needed
Requirements
Committed to and enthusiastic about YAF’s mission and programs
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, and/or public relations or other related discipline or equivalent work experience
Two or more years of experience in a nonprofit or related customer-facing field.
Proven experience in public relations and communications
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, content, and data
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
Effective communicator, both verbally and written
Strong time management and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and with a variety of personality types
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work as a collaborative, constructive team member
