EXCLUSIVE: Milwaukee Public Schools Tells Teachers to ‘Decenter Whiteness’ In Their Classrooms

Milwaukee Public Schools is directing its faculty and staff to “decenter whiteness” in their classrooms, according to a memo exclusively obtained by the New Guard through Young America’s Foundation’s Campus Bias Tip Line.

Whiteness is everywhere around us,” begins a section of the memo. “Educational practices have been rooted in Whiteness and coming from a lens of Whiteness for years. Educators should reflect on which elements of Whiteness they see in education, which they participate in, and which elements they can work to dismantle,” the district continues.

Instructors are then tasked with brainstorming “specific steps [they] can take to de-center Whiteness in [their] educational practices.”

A list of resources to help faculty and staff continue their “journey” includes a prompt asking them to identify their current stage of “white racial identity development” and links to a 26-minute long YouTube video entitled, “Whiteness: WTF?”

As Matt Walsh often emphasizes, substitute “white” with any other racial descriptor, and the content would undoubtedly be deemed egregiously racist. No educational institution would dare direct its teachers to view a video titled “Blackness: WTF?” or “Latinos: WTF?” – and for good reason, without a doubt.

It is unclear how widely this 33-page memo was distributed, but the focus of certain sections seem to indicate that it’s geared towards middle and high school instructors.

The New Guard has reached out to Milwaukee Public Schools for comment, and this article will be updated accordingly.

This is classic CRT/DEI at play, and an example of what our students are up against every day in the classroom,” Young America’s Foundation Middle School Program Director Tawny Kilpper told the New Guard. “Critical Race Theory is a destructive philosophy rooted in Marxism, that promotes hyper-racism and pushes identity politics. Diversity/Equity/Inclusion initiatives foster a victim mentality, undermine individual merit, and limit students’ sense of agency and self-reliance.”  

Young America’s Foundation provides students opportunities to hear a powerful counter-narrative that upholds the values the left seeks to tear down: hard work, personal responsibility, and equality of opportunity. YAF’s student conferences and Middle School Expeditions offer students lessons of truth that instill hope and give them reason to work hard to shape their future.
