The president of Westminster College is doubling down on her administration’s decision to cancel a lecture by Vince Ellison, a passionate black voice in the Conservative Movement.
In a statement shared with the Holcad, Westminster’s student newspaper, Dr. Kathy Richardson said, “Private colleges do not need to guarantee freedom of speech. Public colleges must because they receive state funds; Westminster has chosen to do this; we have a policy on student freedom of expression. Because we’ve done that, we are allowed to restrict student expression according to time, place, or manner of restrictions.”
Dean Gina Vance, who carefully orchestrated the event’s demise, chimed in with criticism of the Young Americans for Freedom chapter: “It is not unusual for us to work with a student organization that does not have all of its ducks in a row.”
Instead of doing her job–that is, working with the students to help them fulfil the school’s stringent requirements host a successful event–she ran to the student paper to slander them as disorganized, which couldn’t be further from the truth.
Ellison had been scheduled to speak out against the Left’s DEI, abortion, and transgenderism agendas at the private Pennsylvania school on April 30, but Dean of Students Gina Vance did everything in her power to stop that from happening.
While Richardson and Vance may be correct when they say that they are legally allowed to prevent conservative ideas from being shared on campus, they’re certainly not living up to the ideals of what higher education ought to be.
