Associate Professor of Economics, Wallace and Marion Reemelin Chair in Free Market Economics at Hillsdale College
Michael Clark received his Ph.D. in economics from George Mason University in 2011. He started his career teaching at the University of Baltimore, where he earned a top teacher award as part of their MBA program. He then moved to his current position at Hillsdale College. In just two years, his hard work and high teaching evaluations garnered him the Reemelin chair in free market economics. His teaching accolades continued to stack up as he has been a finalist for Professor of the Year 5 times. In 2019, he won the National Economics Teaching Association’s award for Best Teaching Innovation in economics. And, in 2026 he won Hillsdale’s prestigious Daugherty Award, given to a senior faculty member for Teaching Excellence. While his passion lies in the classroom, his research has also been fruitful. He has been published in academic journals such as the Adam Smith Review, Reason Papers, and the Independent Review.
