To make this event happen, the chapter had to fight their school to approve it. The school initially claimed that the chapter would have to pay for Shapiro’s honorarium out of their own pockets without any outside funding, despite the school giving leftist groups on campus hundreds of thousands of dollars to host speaker events.
However, the chapter was determined to host the event, and because of their persistence, the school relented and allowed the chapter to proceed.
During his talk, Shapiro highlighted that we are entering a new era. “[The American people] were done with the age of stagnation. We were done with the age of moral confusion. We were done with an age that suggested that weakness was a substitute for strength, that foolishness was a substitute for virtue, or that regulation was a substitute for liberty.”
Vanderbilt YAF Chairman Noah Jenkins stated that the event “certainly elevated the profile of our chapter” and that “going forward, this will help us achieve our goal of introducing as many as possible to conservative ideas.”
