UNCG Administrators Plan ‘Queer Celebration’ Counter Event, Steps from YAF’s Ben Shapiro Lecture

Administrators at University of North Carolina at Greensboro are planning a counter event to YAF’s Ben Shapiro lecture on campus next Monday, promoting a “Queer Celebration” just steps from the campus lecture venue.

According to a graphic obtained by Young America’s Foundation, UNCG’s Dean of Students office, Campus Activities and Programs, Office of Intercultural Engagement, and other offices are co-hosting this event, scheduled to take place at the same time as Ben Shapiro’s campus lecture.

In a phone call with YAF, Assistant Dean of Students Brian Daniels confirmed the Dean of Students office’s participation in the event, although he pushed back on calling it a “counter event,” referring to it as “alternative programming.”

The event will reportedly have a live DJ, free food, and other “free stuff.”

UNCG referred YAF to its recent statement on free speech, but did not answer questions on the ethics of the university co-sponsoring an event that attempts to draw attendance away from the YAF chapter’s Shapiro event.

This attempt by university administrators to delegitimize UNCG YAF’s event featuring Ben Shapiro is shameful. One cannot purport to support free speech on campus, then attempt to chill that speech with programming directly attacking those using their First Amendment rights.

If you’re interested in standing up to the woke mob, free tickets to Ben Shapiro’s YAF lecture are available here.
