CSULA Employee to Rick Santorum: "F*** you"

CSULA Employee to Rick Santorum: “F*** you”

Last week, we reported on a CSULA administrator, Marylu Castillo, who plans on disrupting CSULA YAF’s upcoming lecture with Rick Santorum. Now, it looks like Ms. Castillo is not alone among CSULA employees who want to shut down CSULA YAF and Senator Santorum’s free speech. In the Facebook group “CSULA Book Exchange,” Minh-Triet Dao, who goes by “Minhty Dao” on Facebook, made sure to make his feelings about Santorum known. As we reported in March, Dao used last year’s YAF lecture with Ben Shapiro as rationale for demanding CSULA President William Covino’s resignation. Dao serves as the API Social Justice Program Coordinator at the Cross Cultural Centers at CSULA. On a post from another group member, Dao commented, “Uh, f*** you, Rick Santorum.” Then, student Lorena Montero commented, implying that she and other students hope to block students from accessing the lecture: “Welp, I didn’t care if he came to CSULA, but if this is true, good luck getting him in. Dreamers like myself are amazing and should not just be kicked out #FTP” Dao responded, seemingly in agreement: “Oh, we’re gonna show him what we’re made of.” Seems to me that a number of CSULA employees are “made of” intolerance and shackled by a lack of tolerance for alternative views. Is the school okay with their employees attacking CSULA’s own students and blocking them from voicing their free speech? As of now, it seems so. Rick Santorum will be speaking at California State University, Los Angeles on April 12th at 3:00 pm in the USU Theater. We hope the university will provide a safe and open environment for students of all different ideologies to attend and have their voices heard during Q&A.
