The Council of Chief Diversity Officers at the University of California has created new “equity and inclusion” guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic, alerting students and staff not to use the term “Chinese virus” and instructing them instead to only refer to it as COVID-19 or coronavirus. The document, which includes 15 tips for students and staff to promote a more “inclusive” environment during the crisis, claims that the term “Chinese virus” casts “intentional or unintentional projections of hatred toward Asian communities.” It also encourages readers to “Reject racism, sexism, xenophobia and all hateful or intolerant speech, both in person and online. Be an ‘up-stander,’ and discourage others from engaging in such behavior.” Information about the coronavirus, which, of course, originated in Wuhan China, was suppressed by communist China for weeks, as the regime worked to silence journalists and doctors who attempted to expose the truth about the virus. A new study has shown that if China had acted only 3 weeks earlier, the virus could have been contained by as much as 95 percent. These new guidelines–essentially a speech code aimed at rewriting history–attempt to shield criticism of the communist China regime under the guise of racism and bigotry. It’s another classic attempt of the Left to shut down legitimate criticism and free speech.
