A New Mexico state senator expressed her “extreme disappointment” in the administration of New Mexico State University (NMSU) for allowing the school’s Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) chapter to host a campus lecture featuring Matt Walsh last semester.
Citing a statistic created by the Trevor Project, a leftist organization that hosts predator-ridden chat rooms for young children and previously employed the Biden Administration’s notorious luggage thief animal fetishist, Senator Carrie Hamblen insists in a letter to the university’s president that NMSU “attacked the safety and mere existence of trans individuals” by allowing the event to occur.
“I, along with the public leaders and legislators below, are [sic] writing to express our extreme disappointment in New Mexico State University with the speaking event that involved Matt Walsh in April,” Hamblen’s letter, which was co-signed by an additional eight state, county, and municipal officials, reads.
She goes on to baselessly accuse Walsh of being a proponent of slavery, pedophilia, and child abuse, and advocating for violence against “transgender” individuals – something he has never done.
“As you prepare for new students coming in the fall, we would welcome a serious conversation about the rationale for allowing this type of event that would knowingly frighten and harm part of the student population, learn who in the administration supported this, and what policies or actions will be taken in the future to prevent further emotional and psychological damage to some of the most vulnerable in your student population.”
As a public institution beholden to upholding the First Amendment, NMSU had no choice but to approve the event. It’s very concerning that these nine public officials, who have each sworn an oath to uphold the constitution of the United States, are pressuring university officials to censor conservative speech.
The university’s interim president, Jay Gouge, requested that the leadership of NMSU Young Americans for Freedom join him in a meeting with the authoritarian senator.
Jewel Navarette, chairwoman of the YAF chapter, tells the New Guard that she and her fellow conservative students refuse to be pushed around: “We will continue to fight for the right to free speech and expression on our campus. These public officials have no right to say what kind of ideas can or cannot be expressed at NMSU.”
The New Guard reached out to the offices of each of the letter’s signatories asking whether the officials understand their constitutional obligations to uphold free speech. All have yet to respond. This article will be updated accordingly.
