Every year, Portland State University’s “Queer Resource Center” releases a directory of students, faculty, and staff who identify as a “member of the trans and queer community,” according to a tip received through Young America’s Foundation’s Campus Bias Tip Line.
While it’s unusual that a university would publish a list like this, taking a look at the data it provides can lend valuable insight into just how out of touch the higher education system has become.
A New Guard analysis of the list for 2023 found that 99 faculty and staff and 171 undergraduate and graduate students opted to be included. As this is a voluntary directory, there are almost certainly many more students at PSU who identify with these nonsensical identities.
Shay Snyder, who works as a transfer student advisor, identifies as “gender non-compliant.” Alica Wolverton of the housing and residence department claims to be “demi-gender,” and Kimo Darro Omar, who works in the administration, identifies his gender as “SaulChad.” It’s unclear what that gender could possibly mean. Other faculty and staff purport to be genderless, “questioning,” and “fluid,” among other identities.
Perhaps, if a professor or advisor can’t comprehend something as simple as the reality that he or she is either a man or a woman, that person should not be teaching young and impressionable college students.
These leftist faculty members can’t even keep up with their woke ideology’s ever-changing rules and rituals. Madelyn Parsons, a faculty member in the School of Business, listed her “gender identity” in the directory as a “cis woman” [a biological woman who identifies as such], but requested that the resource center’s staff replace the term “woman” with whatever the current terminology may be.
Among students, there is a noticeable trend – instead of identifying as the opposite sex, the vast majority of students on this list have adopted “neo-genders” and “non-binary” status. Only twelve students fall into the simple “male/female swap” category, while 50 claim to be “non-binary,” and the rest are “fluid,” “questioning,” “genderflux,” or otherwise.
In addition to the 270 members of the directory who identify with Leftist gender and sexuality theories, 85 others added themselves as “supporters.”
It’s very concerning that such a large number of young people (and the individuals tasked with training them for the “real world”) at a single school have bought into this insanity.
On the bright side, a poll of Gen Z high school and college students conducted by Echelon Insights and commissioned by YAF found that students rank LGBTQ+ issues fairly low on the totem pole of issues they consider to be most important.
Young America’s Foundation will continue to bring truth to confront the Left’s lies head-on through impactful campus lectures and inspiring student conferences nationwide.
