Job Summary

Job Summary: The Director of Marketing and Communications will serve as an integral member of YAF’s team, advancing Young America’s Foundation’s mission by managing YAF’s strategic communications and marketing with our core constituents—students, supporters, alumni, and allies in the Conservative Movement.

The Director will oversee YAF’s communications, public relations, digital media, and marketing team (and other staff as assigned) to maximize YAF’s positive exposure and outreach nationwide.

The Director will be responsible for developing, integrating, and implementing a broad range of communications and marketing activities related to the strategic growth of YAF.

This role reports to the President & Chief Operating Officer and is to be executed in-person at the YAF National Headquarters in Reston, VA. Occasional travel will be required.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a strategic communications plan to ensure YAF’s long-term growth, increase awareness of our programs and mission, and broaden the visibility of YAF’s programs among our key stakeholders
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of communications, public relations, digital media, and marketing team (and other communications-related staff as assigned)
  • Create an ongoing marketing plan to enhance relationships with targeted members of the media and key media outlets
  • Lead regular meetings with YAF’s communications, public relations, digital media, and marketing team members to ensure messages are coordinated and consistent
  • Coordinate YAF’s overall rapid response (including email, digital, and media) to time-sensitive events, including campus lectures, YAF conferences, and current events directly impacting students
  • Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities as needed
  • Work with YAF’s leadership team to create and implement a short and long-term public relations strategy to ensure maximum positive Foundation exposure
  • Serve as a YAF spokesperson, as needed, representing YAF in local and national media outlets, including television, radio, and print
  • Build and grow YAF’s relationships with the media, particularly conservative media
  • Work closely with YAF’s vice president of student programs to ensure YAF’s student programs, campus lectures, and initiatives are broadly promoted, receive maximum media exposure, and inspire new audience of young people
  • Work closely with YAF’s director of development to ensure YAF’s student programs, campus lectures, and initiatives are broadly promoted, receive maximum media exposure, and inspire current and prospective financial supporters
  • Work closely with YAF’s leadership at the Reagan Ranch and Reagan Boyhood Home to expand the reach of these two historic Presidential properties
  • Work with YAF’s program and development team to ensure publications, mail, e-mail, newsletters, and general communications are consistent and reflect the overall goals and successes of the organization
  • Work with YAF’s National Journalism Center staff to integrate and grow this core project of YAF and leverage the vast network of NJC alumni working in media and communications
  • Oversee YAF’s New Guard online publication to prioritize and promote key YAF stories and original content
  • Work with internal and external resources to maximize press coverage of YAF in-person student programming nationwide
  • Interact with YAF students, friends, and supporters at programs and events
  • Maintain relationships with allied organizations and communications staff in the Conservative Movement

Requirements

Requirements:

  • 5+ years in a communications and/or marketing, prior YAF experience a plus
  • Passionate and committed to Young America’s Foundation’s goals and mission
  • Experience in leading and building teams
  • Extensive and successful writing experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Zeal for YAF’s programs, initiatives, projects, and goals
  • Self-starter who can effectively prioritize and manage multiple events and tasks
  • A strong interest in promoting conservative ideas to young people
  • Team player
  • Excellent oral, written, organizational, and copyediting skills
