The Supreme Court released a landmark decision Thursday morning banning race-based college admissions policies.
This decision marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of providing equal opportunities for all, regardless of race or ethnicity.
“For generations, YAF has been 100% consistent and unwavering in our support of the words carved into the façade of the U.S. Supreme Court: “Equal Justice Under Law,” Young America’s Foundation General Counsel Vic Bernson noted.
“A nation that truly honors and abides by the rule of law is a nation that insists on a level playing field for all. Affirmative action is the antithesis of a level playing field. In fact, affirmative action is inherently racist in its theory and application in that it condemns some and celebrates others based solely on a rationale that is universally recognized as meaningless and absurd: the color of one’s skin,” he continued.
A conservative advocacy group, Students for Fair Admissions, filed two lawsuits against the University of North Carolina and Harvard University that successfully argued that the institutions wrongfully discriminated against Asian-American applicants.
For decades, Young Americans for Freedom activists on campuses throughout the country have opened their peers’ eyes to the unfairness of these policies for through hosting campus lectures on the topic featuring Ward Connerly, Dinesh D’Souza, and others, and organizing activism projects.
“As we prepare to celebrate the anniversary of our Declaration of Independence, we should remember that all people are created equal—gifted with fundamental rights from our Creator. We must continue to live up to the promise of America. The decision by the Supreme Court is one more step in the right direction,” YAF President Governor Scott Walker remarked.
