Job Summary
A project of Young America’s Foundation, the National Journalism Center (NJC) is an educational organization that trains aspiring journalists in the values of responsible, balanced, and accurate reporting. The NJC currently organizes two 12-week internship sessions per year (spring and summer). Students are recruited from around the country for each semester, and subsequently placed in newsrooms around the Washington, D.C., metro area.
The NJC is looking for a full-time program officer to support both the director and the program director in outreach to media, alumni, and students.
Responsibilities
Work with experts to craft and manage best practice guidelines on various topics for journalists who cover them.
Monitor legacy media for bias and communicate with reporters and editors across media to correct biased coverage with NJC’s guidelines.
Track student and alumni professionals
Organize regular seminars and events for alumni and broader media
Help recruit potential students for the program. This will include: reviewing submitted application materials, creating dossiers for potential candidates, and scheduling interviews with the program director.
Help arrange in-person placements for the students with the NJC’s existing network of partner newsrooms.
Report on NJC programs as necessary for YAF and NJC publications
Assist with additional NJC programming, administration, and events as necessary
Requirements
Proficient in Microsoft Word
Effective communicator, both verbally

This is an in-office position based at YAF’s national headquarters in Reston, Virginia. Owning a vehicle to allow ready transport to YAF’s national headquarters is strongly recommended.
