In spite of YAF’s successful lawsuit against the University of Florida’s funding system in 2017, the school continues to present issues – inspiring YAFers like Caitlyn McCoy to continue creating solutions. The funding system at UF is constitutionally sound, but operates on a strictly first-come, first-serve basis – early applicants take thousands of dollars from the pool of student funds and leave zero for groups that request funds 15 seconds later. McCoy, with assistance from YAF, has proposed alternative funding systems that would better serve the students. This proposal is gaining traction on campus, and we hope to see new funding legislation in the fall.
