YAF learned that in the wake of Matt Walsh’s October speech at UIL school administrators had gathered for a “Free Speech Meeting.” YAF filed a public records request to learn the purpose of this meeting. While notes from the meeting were scarce, YAF did learn that, in the future, the school no longer considers DEI committees necessary for events like this – unfortunately this is because “all committees will focus on DEI.” The school also noted that they will continue to emphasize that the event is hosted by the student org – continuing to ostracize student speech they disfavor. One director also suggested hosting something alternative when a conservative comes to town – would they do the same if an LGBTQ activist came to campus? Obviously, this is a school to keep our eye on.
