YAFers were preparing to host Matt Walsh at the University of Iowa when the school hit them with a large security fee. The school obfuscated by citing the potential for anti-Walsh protests. YAF advised students the fee was unconstitutional, since it was based on protestors’ dislike of the speech – in other words, the school had discriminated based on viewpoint. Also, the school had signed a contract agreeing to pay all security fees. YAF pushed back and the school paid for security. Walsh spoke to a packed venue, and everyone was safe in spite of rampant protests.
