Shortly after the Young Americans for Freedom chapter at the University of Iowa announced an upcoming event featuring Vince Everett Ellison, a popular author and speaker who exposes the Left’s lies to the black community, the campus ANTIFA chapter responded with plans to “shut it down.”
“Feb. 26th! Get there and shut it down,” the violent and hateful group told its more than 400 followers on X.
The event, which will take place later this month in the Iowa Memorial Union, is titled “Diversity Equity and Inclusion: The Real Slavery.”
“Calling DEI the ‘REAL SLAVERY’ is actually f***ing insane and if you’re not seeing the problem, you ARE the problem,” wrote an Iowa student who the ANTIFA chapter reposted.
“Our focus is not to diminish the impact of slavery in the past, but to highlight how DEI programs in academia have caused students in their programs to become slaves to their woke ideology,” Jasmyn Jordan, chairwoman of Young Americans for Freedom at the University of Iowa, told the New Guard.
Over the years, Young America’s Foundation has had multiple black conservative speakers including Star Parker, Allen West, and Walter Williams, among others, address these topics on college campuses.
Some of Parker’s speeches were based on her book titled, “Leaving the Poverty Plantation.” Are blacks today living on an actual plantation? Of course not! But leftist policies are keeping those in the inner cities destitute – and they need to look at conservative, free market alternatives.
Walter Williams used similar themes, equating big government’s oppressive policies with being a form of slavery.
Clarence Thomas used similar metaphors during his testimony in front of Congress – he called his treatment a “high-tech lynching.”
Instead of trying to “shut it down,” those who disagree with Ellison’s message should come out to the event and engage with him during the question-and-answer session.
Iowa ANTIFA has an extensive history of shutting down events put on by the Young Americans for Freedom chapter. When YAF hosted the Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh, students stole costly advertisement materials and started a petition calling on the school to call off the event. When the chapter hosted Chloe Cole, a bold detransitioner, the following semester, students intolerant of differing opinions blocked traffic in the streets for hours, leading to their arrests and ongoing prosecution.
The New Guard attempted to reach ANTIFA for comment via direct messaging on X, but did not hear back.
Young America’s Foundation will continue to monitor ANTIFA’s plans.
