California Governor Gavin Newsom is threatening to fine the Temecula Valley Unified School District $1.6 million after the local school board voted not to adopt a leftist social studies curriculum that highlights the “contributions” of Harvey Milk, an infamous pedophile and politician.
The curriculum, Social Studies Alive!, encourages teachers to promote Milk as a hero of the LGBTQ+ movement for being the first openly gay man elected to public office. The lesson plan, designed for five through 12-year-olds, fails to mention Milk’s sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy while in his early 30s.
A school board in Temecula decided to reject a textbook because it mentioned Harvey Milk.

CA is stepping in.
We’re going to purchase the book for these students—the same one that hundreds of thousands of kids are already using.

Unwilling to accept the school board’s reasoning, Newsom labeled the school board – and by extension, all parents who don’t want their children exposed to sexualized leftist propaganda – as incompetent extremists: “If these extremist school board members won’t do their job, we will – and fine them for their incompetence,” he wrote in a press release released Thursday evening.
The announcement also states that California will order copies of the textbooks for each elementary school student in the district, along with an invoice demanding reimbursement for the $1.5 million expense (in addition to the fine).
“I find the inclusion of sexually based topics and the glorification of a known pedophile, who happened to be an advocate for gay rights, to 10-year-olds morally reprehensible and inappropriate,” Danny Gonzalez, a member of the school board, said.
The president of the board, Dr. Joseph Komorosky, asked a very logical question: “Why even mention a pedophile? What does that got to do with our curriculum in schools?”
