Five years ago, on June 19, 2019, President Donald Trump awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, to esteemed economist Dr. Arthur Laffer, a longtime ally of Young America’s Foundation. This accolade recognized Dr. Laffer’s lifelong contributions to economic thinking and policymaking, most notably the Laffer Curve—the model demonstrating how lower tax rates produce greater economic growth and government revenue.
Dr. Laffer’s influence on economic policy spans decades. His groundbreaking ideas fueled the tax-cutting movement of the 1980s, when he advised influential leaders such as President Ronald Reagan and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. His expertise was crucial in the development and passage of both the Economic Recovery Act of 1981 under President Reagan and the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 under President Trump, policies that created greater economic prosperity for millions of Americans.
As a dedicated friend and partner with Young America’s Foundation, Dr. Laffer has also educated and inspired thousands of students through his lectures, books, and online videos at YAF’s conferences and college campuses nationwide.

Additionally, as a member of the Board of Advisors of YAF’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Free Enterprise, he provides guidance on how YAF can reach and engage increasing numbers of young people and faculty members with free market ideas.
As Dr. Laffer has remarked during his YAF campus lecture tours, “It’s a critical time to educate students on the free enterprise principles and policies that will help our country become more prosperous, and they need to hear the truth on this topic.”
