Joe Gow, disgraced former chancellor of the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse who moonlighted as a pornographer, is still employed by the state institution as a tenured communications professor, the New Guard verified by contacting the university.
As of the most recent update to the UW system salary database, he was making $231,177 per year as chancellor. The university was unable to confirm what portion of that amount he will be allowed to keep as a professor, but did indicate that he is still receiving pay.
Gow was terminated from his administrative position two weeks ago after his pornography side-hustle was discovered. He and his wife had been producing and selling pornography, calling themselves a “passionate plant-powered couple cooking, conversing, and shooting extraordinary sex scenes with top adult stars!”
When announcing Gow’s removal from office, University President Jay Rothman said that the former chancellor caused the institution “significant reputational harm.” Rothman has since launched a review of Gow’s tenure status, which could lead to his complete termination, but in the meantime, he’ll be able to collect a salary while formulating a ridiculous argument that posting obscene videos of himself to the internet is his expression of free speech.
“Gow allowed serious infringements on the First Amendment rights of students during his chancellorship, and is now trying to make himself into some kind of First Amendment martyr,” Ryan Kitzan, chairman of the recently established Young Americans for Freedom chapter at UWLAX told the New Guard.
He’s showing himself to be a hypocrite of the highest order. We don’t feel the university should be compelled to retain him, even as a professor. Producing and selling porn doesn’t fall under the protections of academic freedom.”
