At the University of Notre Dame, the Young Americans for Freedom chapter organized a bold response to leftist radicals, including Antifa, who attempted to remove images of—and even references to—Christopher Columbus on the Catholic institution’s campus. “We felt the need to voice our support for the preservation, not coverup, of history,” explained UND YAF chair Madelyn Taylor. In addition to spearheading a petition that garnered nearly 3,000 signatures to preserve murals of Christopher Columbus on Notre Dame’s campus, UND YAF hosted the Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles through YAF’s Robert and Patricia Herbold Lecture Series. A standing room only audience filled the lecture hall beyond capacity and Knowles’ speech has since been viewed nearly 100,000 times online. UND YAF’s bold initiatives rallied students on a normally stoic campus to take action to defend their own school’s history and garnered the chapter media coverage at the local and national level. The following members of UND YAF were instrumental in the chapter’s success: -Luke Jones -Derek Dellisola -Grant Strobl -Catherine Viz -Griffin Alexander -Lexi Becker -Jacob Mears -Lauren Lemaignen
