Suzanne Scholte, a human rights activist with decades of experience advocating for the liberation of the North Korean people, knows exactly what kind of leader America needs to defeat Kim Jong-un’s regime.
“We need someone who believes in American exceptionalism and who will not be duped by the lie that you can negotiate over good faith,” Schulte told The New Guard.
“We need someone like Reagan who told Mr. Gorbachev to ‘tear down this wall,'” Scholte explained. “Rather than negotiating with [Kim Jung Un], we should be condemning him.”
According to Scholte, American leaders too often focus on negotiating over nuclear weapons when the main battle is actually fighting to restore and preserve human rights. Sweeping the issue of human rights under the rug only enables North Korean leaders to continue committing crimes against humanity.
While some American college students struggle with the concept of American exceptionalism (as we reported just last week), thousands of people have fled North Korea to find refuge in the country known as “the shining city upon the hill.”
Scholte, a Young Americans for Freedom alumna, remarked, “Every defector, close to 30,000, believes in American exceptionalism.”
As more leaders in the United States speak freely about American exceptionalism, Scholte explained, the people of North Korea will begin to realize their true enemy is Kim Jung Un, not the United States of America.
