Leftists Petition UW-Madison to Revoke YAF’s Charter Over Shapiro Lecture
Young Americans for Freedom at the University of Wisconsin (UW YAF) is the target of a bizarre new petition drafted by disgruntled leftists who are asking the university to revoke the club’s charter.
The petition, which was written by the so-called “Student Coalition for Progress,” argues that because the chapter hosted a lecture by Ben Shapiro, “members of marginalized groups are feeling less safe than ever before.”
“Shapiro,” the petition states, “has used his following and nationally syndicated media presence to deny the realities of systematic and institutional violences against Black and Brown people, sexual assault survivors, Muslims, LGBTQIA+ people, people with low income, people with differing abilities, undocumented immigrants, and anyone that is systematically targeted along identity lines.”
The petition quotes an unnamed student allegedly saying, “I just watched Shapiro’s lecture, and as an international minority student, seeing familiar faces of classmates in the cheering crowd, I felt betrayed, unwelcome, and regretting my choice of university and ever coming to the U.S.”
It should go without saying that this is completely ridiculous.
Kara Bell, chair of UW YAF, told Young America’s Foundation, “These pathetic attempts to bully me and my chapter out of promoting conservative ideas on campus are only inspiring us to be more vocal about our beliefs.”
“We will not be silenced or intimidated by a silly petition,” Bell continued.
Ben Shapiro is widely-regarded to be one of the most important and substantive conservative commentators in the media. His lecture was repeatedly disrupted by leftist protestors who shouted over him, banged on walls outside of the event, and chanted expletives in front of children.

This is exactly what happens when conservative students simply attempt to express their views on college campuses. Intolerant leftists feel compelled to silence them.
Hilariously, the petition is seeking only 100 signatures, while the University of Wisconsin’s total enrollment is over 40,000 students.
