An angry mob of leftist protestors shouted down prominent conservative Robert Spencer during a Young America’s Foundation campus lecture at the University at Buffalo Monday night. Invited to speak by the UB Young Americans for Freedom, Spencer was set to deliver an address on “the dangers of Jihad in today’s world.” In the days leading up to the event, conservative students uncovered a plot orchestrated by the University at Buffalo’s Muslim Student Association (MSA), which shares roots with the Muslim Brotherhood. When Robert Spencer arrived on campus, intolerant leftists dominatedĀ the room where he was scheduled to speak and began their anti-free speech demonstration. Chants of “Whose streets?” “Our streets” erupted, and some leftist agitators carried a large banner which read: “MUSLIMS WELCOME / FASCISTS-GET OUT” Throughout the unfolding chaos brought on by anti-free speech liberals, campus administrators and authorities did nothing to protect the free speech rights of Robert Spencer, the Young Americans for Freedom chapter, or students who attended the event with the hope of hearing new ideas. Instead, as we see all too often, university leadership allowed radical leftists to silence conservative speech with no repercussions. It’s no wonder leftists think they can get away with this sort of truly-fascist behavior on their campuses. Among the UB administrators who stood by and did nothing to protect their students’ rights are:
Gerald Schoenle, Chief of University Police
Tom Tiberi, Director of Campus Life
Kerry Spicer, Associate Director of Student Activities and Organizations
Mark Sorel, Administrative Director of UB Student Associations
Luke Haumesser, Assistant Director of Student Activities and Organizations
Terry Budek, Associate Director of the Intercultural and Diversity Center
The extreme intolerance of the Left, often and in this case to the point of shutting down other students’ First Amendment rights, is a cancer destroying theĀ free exchange of ideas in higher education.
