A Northwestern University professor tweeted “Happy 9/11” on the 18th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, bizarrely arguing that the United States has been complicit in more acts of terror than it has been a victim of.
Justin Martin, a Journalism professor at Northwestern University’s campus in Qatar, tweeted last week “Happy 9/11 more than 8,441 civilians died in Yemen this year helped by US arms dealt to Saudi Arabia & UAE.” He went on to argue that “the US is complicit in far more terror than it has ever suffered.”
The president of the university, Morton Shapiro, and the Provost, Jonathan Hollaway, issued a swift condemnation of the professor’s tweet. “Northwestern University finds it disgraceful that he makes light of the horrors of 9/11. This is insensitive and deeply disappointing, particularly on the anniversary of the terror attacks,” the statement reads. The administrators emphasize that as the professor’s profile states, his views are his own.
This cowardly inaction by the university and reckless remarks by Martin show just how essential it is for America’s youth to be reminded about the truth of 9/11, and not an ideologically-driven, politically correct version of events. That’s why YAF continues to promote the nation’s largest campus activism initiative, the 9/11: Never Forget Project, in order to remember the lives lost to radical Islamic terrorism and to inspire students’ commitment to defending our freedoms whenever they are attacked.
Professor Martin is in a pivotal position in academia, teaching his hateful messages to America’s youth who will one day go on to lead our nation. The Left will continue to brainwash students into believing their agenda and narrative of events, unless we take back our schools through providing something rare in today’s world: the truth.
