University of Notre Dame informed students, faculty, and staff on Monday that it is taking steps to address the “legacy of racism that persists in our nation.”

In a university-wide email, President Rev. John Jenkins announced the creation of the Trustee Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, which will aim to “examine the campus climate, hear from various constituencies, review university initiatives, and offer recommendations.”

The email also announced an update on the school’s plans to hide from sight its Christopher Columbus murals. According to the announcement, removable coverings will be installed next month, prefacing a larger exhibit which will allegedly provide “context” for the paintings after far-left student activists and faculty express dismayed over the artwork.

YAF immediately rushed the Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles to Notre Dame last year as the backlash against Columbus escalated on campus.

This latest attempt to appear “woke” by one of the nation’s most prestigious universities is sadly misguided. After moving  classes online for two weeks following a rise in COVID-19 cases at the beginning of the fall semester, it seems the school could be focused on a lot of other important things–not coddling its students and spending money, and time on bureaucratic task forces and committees.
