UCSB Launches “Safe Spaces” In Response to Walsh YAF Lecture

In response to tomorrow’s YAF sponsored campus lecture with Matt Walsh, the UC-Santa Barbara Resource Center for Sexual & Gender Diversity sent out an email (posted below) to students announcing a list of events for “Day of Trans Solidarity.” Tomorrow’s lecture, hosted by the UCSB Young Americans for Liberty and titled “An Encroachment on Liberty: How the Left Exploits Transgender Laws,” has garnered its fair share of controversy from the campus community. A number of flyers promoting the event have been torn down and a group of UCSB students have scheduled a “transgender solidarity meal” near campus, conveniently scheduled at the same time as the Walsh lecture. Instead of planning to attend the lecture, leftists, including an entire UCSB campus department, have once again retreated to “safe spaces,” instead of promoting open and honest dialogue about a controversial topic. College campuses should be places of intellectual diversity and discussion, not intolerance and isolation. The lecture, scheduled at 7 pm tomorrow in 1004 Girvetz on UCSB’s campus, will feature a question and answer session open to students of all ideological stripes.
