The University of Michigan spent $20,000 on the purchase of books that feature pornographic illustrations, racist agendas, and other liberal themes through its “Banned Books Giveaway,” according to a tip received through Young America’s Foundation’s Campus Bias Tip Line.
The giveaway is part of the university’s “Arts & Resistance Theme Semester,” and will include 16 titles for students to choose from:
According to a press release put out by the university, a total of 2,000 books will be distributed throughout this week.
Notably, Gender Queer includes illustrations of child sexual abuse and various forms of intercourse, among other disturbing details.
Titles including the 1619 Project and Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America directly encourage racial tension and identity-based generalizations.
Many of these selections were also identified in Young America’s Foundation’s recently released “Radical Reads Report,” which details the concerning lack of ideological diversity in college campus “common reading” programs throughout the country.
YAF never opposes the reading of books, regardless of the viewpoint being pushed – but it’s worth recognizing that public institutions like the University of Michigan are more than willing to fund programs promoting leftist ideologies, while never or very rarely doing the same for materials that encourage students to consider conservative viewpoints.
“Are we disappointed that the university celebrates perversion and sexual immorality? Yes. Are we surprised? No,” UMich Young Americans for Freedom Chairman Ben Estell, told the New Guard.
