On Thursday evening, Young Americans for Freedom members at the University of Alabama hosted a beautiful vigil for Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student at Augusta University who was killed late last month by an illegal immigrant.
The ceremony was hosted in collaboration with UA’s chapter of Alpha Chi Omega, a sorority of which the slain student was a member.
“Our chapter endeavored to host a vigil for Laken Riley because she deserves to be remembered, and the circumstances surrounding her death are something we desperately need to address as a country,” Christian Calvert, chairman of Young Americans for Freedom at the University of Alabama, told the New Guard. “A bright young woman being murdered by a man who was repeatedly arrested and released without deportation is unacceptable, and represents a failure of our government on the most basic level,” he emphasized.
Responsibility for this tragedy falls squarely on the shoulders of the Biden Administration and the leftist politicians in major cities throughout the country who have enabled and encouraged illegal aliens to flood through the southern border.
“A vital responsibility of our elected officials is to protect the people, and they take an oath to defend our country against all enemies. Our borders are not being protected, and state and local leaders nationwide are making the places they govern into ‘sanctuaries,’ leading to avoidable deaths like this one. Sanctuaries aren’t safe,” Calvert emphasized.
While Biden offered his condolences to Riley’s family during his State of the Union address, he apparently forgot her name, calling her “Lincoln.”
These bold YAFers are raising vital awareness on their campus about the realities of the Left’s open-border agenda. While leftist activist educators mislead students by telling them that open borders are the “compassionate” approach, in reality, lax border protection results in these completely preventable tragedies like this.
