Late last month, liberals at the University of Wisconsin- Madison slapped together a pathetic petition asking the school to denounce its Young Americans for Freedom chapter for hosting a hugely successful lecture by Ben Shapiro that drew hundreds of attendees.
The petition, drafted by the so-called “Student Coalition for Progress,” strung together a strange mix of hilariously false claims about the chapter and asked the university to “put [YAF] students through intensive diversity training and have the charter revoked so Y.A.F. is no longer a campus organization that can create a hostile environment on campus.”
The Student Coalition for Progress sought to obtain 500 signatures for the petition, a tiny fraction of UW- Madison’s more than 30,000 undergraduates, but shut the entire thing down after only managing to obtain around 200.
The petitioners tried in vain to amass more support, updating the petition three different times to express their “desperation” and beg people to share it.
Alas, the coalition quietly announced on the last day of the semester that it had delivered its embarrassingly unsuccessful petition to the “appropriate decision makers.”
Bad news for campus leftists– YAF has been around since 1960 and we’re not going anywhere anytime soon. We’re bring real change to college campuses. And silly petitions like these only prove how threatened the Left is by our impactful activism.
