Wingate Invites Students to ‘Black Out’ in Support of Charlotte Protests
While violent leftist protestors wreaked havoc in Charlotte Wednesday night, just 30 miles away at Wingate University, the Office of Residence Life & Involvement sent an email to the student body inviting them to join a “‘Black Out’ in support of current events going on in Charlotte, NC.”
The university sent the invitation on behalf of the Black Student Union (BSU), apparently encouraging students to show solidarity with the protestors, several of whom sent police officers and civilians to the hospital with injuries.
The invitation read, “BSU invites you to participate in a BLACK OUT in support of current events going on in Charlotte, NC. The Black Student Union is inviting members of the Wingate Community to wear all black on Thursday, September 22, 2016 and join them for a Prayer Vigil at 8:15 PM.”
In response, Wingate University’s Young Americans for Freedom chapter organized a “Blue Out,” asking their classmates to show their support for Charlotte’s police force.
In a message to Young America’s Foundation sent Thursday morning, Wingate YAF chair Kyle Ferrebee remarked, “A lot of people are wearing blue today.”
