On Wednesday, Young America’s Foundation honored President Ronald Reagan on the 20th anniversary of his passing by bringing his enduring legacy to Capitol Hill.
Summer interns from more than 60 unique congressional and senate offices were invited to draw inspiration from the president’s closest confidants, including Peter Robinson, the esteemed speechwriter responsible for crafting the iconic Berlin Wall address, and Bruce Weinrod, former Secretary of Defense representative for Europe and Defense Advisor to the U.S. Mission to NATO.
Frank Donatelli, who served as an assistant to President Reagan, and more recently, on the Young America’s Foundation Board of Directors, hosted the event.
Hill interns were fascinated to learn of the vast differences between East and West Germany, and how Peter Robinson worked with President Reagan to push for the wall to be torn down.
He encouraged the future leaders of the Conservative Movement to spend time writing, as it’s the best medium for discovery.
“Ronald Reagan had words, and you do too,” he remarked. “Read and write constantly, work out your thoughts.” He also encouraged the crowd to listen to and read the works of stalwart conservative thinkers including Reagan and William F. Buckley, Jr.
Bruce Weinrod inspired the audience by stating, “Freedom is the highest guiding principle for humanity. America is exceptional.”
With the current state of our nation, Frank Donatelli said, “As long as we believe in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence our country is renewed. This is much better than the top down society of other countries. Don’t ever be against the United States.”
President Reagan’s monumental principles and timeless words are vital to the future of America. Young America’s Foundation is proud to carry the torch of his legacy for the next generation.
