Since 2003, more than 12 million flags have been placed in the ground as part of YAF’s iconic project.
Young America’s Foundation is proud to organize the 9/11: Never Forget Project on hundreds of campuses across the nation this week. Through this initiative, the largest nationwide campus activism project of its kind, students at schools across the country create displays featuring 2,977 American flags to remember those murdered at the hands of radical Islamists.
Even though this year’s college freshmen had not yet been born at the time of the attacks, students across the nation are still motivated to commemorate the anniversary.
The project has taken a life of its own since the launch in 2003, with many schools and communities independently setting up flag displays to commemorate the victims.
Joining campus displays across the country, Young America’s Foundation will also set up 2,977 flags on the National Mall on Saturday, September 11 at 9:00 a.m. ET – a dramatic sight just steps from the United States Capitol. Similar displays will be constructed at the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home in Dixon, IL and on the shores of Santa Barbara, CA.
If it weren’t for these displays, most schools would ignore the anniversary of September 11. The Biden administration has even put America at risk of another terror attack, after abandoning Afghanistan and allowing for the Taliban to take control of the country. After 13 troops recently lost their lives to radical Islamic terrorists in Kabul, it is more important than ever to demand our leaders never forget who the real enemy is, and that they take the necessary steps to protect America and the world.
“Our country was forever changed after the events of 9/11,” said YAF President Governor Scott Walker. “Every student younger than 20 years old in this country was born after 9/11. As schools and public officials across the country attempt to sanitize the tragic attacks, we need to remind the next generation of what happened, who did it, and why they did it.”
This September marks 20 years since the tragic terror attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. YAF activists understand the significance of 9/11 and hope to raise awareness about the importance of eradicating terrorism, especially as threats, including the Taliban and ISIS, continue to rise around the world.
“This year’s anniversary carries extra significance, and students are eager to participate in this project,” noted YAF Spokeswoman Kara Zupkus. “While the Biden administration seems to forget the real threat of radical Islamic terrorism, students are prepared to educate their peers and ensure we never forget the lives lost.”
