Please join us for a special Wendy P. McCaw Roundtable event as we mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on our country.
As in years past, we will honor the 2,977 lives lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on United Flight 93 with a memorial flag display on Santa Barbara’s West Beach near Stearns Wharf.
A special program will begin with the presentation of colors, a moment of silence and a bagpipe tribute at the moment the first plane hit the World Trade Center. Following this ceremony, Ground Zero survivors Bob and Margie Niehaus will share their powerful personal story with longtime San Diego radio host and member of the Reagan Ranch Board of Governors Mark Larson for an on-stage conversation with the flag display as a striking backdrop.
Seating and refreshments will be provided on the beach; shuttles will be available from the Reagan Ranch Center, as outlined below.
Please note: Several local schools are planning to join YAF in marking this important anniversary. YAF supporters and the local community are welcomed and encouraged to attend this complimentary event, but we kindly ask that you use the registration link provided so that we can adequately prepare seating.
Event Location: West Beach, near Stearns Wharf
Parking: Limited parking is available along Cabrillo Boulevard; guests may also park in the city lot next to the Reagan Ranch Center, and complimentary shuttles will provide transportation to and from West Beach.
Schedule:
7:00 am Flag display set up (volunteers may assist students and staff in placing the flags in the sand)
7:30 am Coffee and refreshments available at both West Beach and the Reagan Ranch Center; shuttles will begin transporting guests to West Beach
8:15 am Final shuttles depart for West Beach
8:30 am Wendy P. McCaw 9/11: Never Forget Memorial program begins
9:30 am Program concludes
9:45 am Shuttles begin returning to the Reagan Ranch Center
The memorial will be available for community reflection throughout the day. All are invited to join us on West Beach again at 5:00 pm as we conclude the memorial with the playing of taps. Volunteers may assist with the collection of the flags.
