When YAFers at the U hosted a screening of the movie “Damaged” to shed light on the dangerous and villainous practice of sex-change operations for children, protestors shouted the event down – with the assistance of police who pressured the YAFers to leave the venue. YAF joined with Mountain States Legal Foundation to demand the school correct his injustice. School lawyers reacted quickly, demanding the names of the officers and admin who stood in the YAFers’ way and ensuring appropriate security for upcoming events. YAF successfully re-screened the film and hosted de-transitioner Chloe Cole later that month.
In a refreshing example of protecting students’ rights, The U even disbanded the student organization that had violated school rules by heckling the first screening and referred several student for prosecution for interfering.
Also, while YAF normally must deal with statements against their views, here, Utah Governor Spencer Cox initiated high-level action to support freedom of speech in reaction to YAF’s story.
