Israelis Engaged in ‘Ethnic Cleansing’ and ‘Apartheid’ According to UGA Student Group

By Ross Dubberly Summer 2017 Intern at YAF HQ   Earlier this month, the University of Georgia’s Students for Justice in Palestine chapter urged students to apply for their Executive Board in order to help “end the ethnic cleansing,” presumably by the Israelis against the Palestinians. The group’s Facebook page and Twitter feed are also fraught with references to Israeli “apartheid.” Unfortunately, these libelous smears were not out of character for this radical organization. In early April, as some students were attempting to celebrate “IsraelFest,” an event designed to celebrate Jewish and Israeli culture, the radicals of the UGA SJP showed up to protest. SJP’s president, Osama Mor, called the event “offensive,” and explained that it was an attempt to celebrate “a racist colonial apartheid state,” according to the Red&Black. The protest was charged with such charming chants as “stop the killing, stop the hate, Israel is a racist state.” SJP is a national organization not limited to the University of Georgia. According to the Anti-Defamation League, there are over 126 chapters on campuses across the country. It was founded in October 2000 at none other than UC Berkley and quickly spread to other universities across the nation. Since its inception, the group has been alarmingly close to anti-Semites and terrorist sympathizers. For example, as David Horowitz’s FrontPage Magazine has noted, SJP’s national convention in 2002 was sponsored by the now-outlawed Islamic Association of Palestine, and hosted Sami al-Arian as a guest speaker, a former professor who was indicted in 2003 for terrorist ties. Unsurprisingly, the group is also a fervent supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) effort, another radical movement which calls for, among other things, the divestment of the U.S. government from all Israeli businesses, as well as an end to U.S. aid to Israel. While conservative organizations like YAF face backlash, protests, and smear campaigns continuously for simply promoting freedom, organizations like the Students for Justice in Palestine that have called terrorist acts “justified armed resistance” go unchallenged. That very few know about the despicable history, statements, and actions of SJP is yet another example of leftist bias at American universities.
