The University of Southern California’s ‘Equity-Minded Teaching Institute’ is offering training workshops that appear to promote division and advance the Left’s radical DEI agenda in the classroom.
The eight-session program begins with a three-hour lesson titled “The Classroom is a Racialized Space.” Educators are taught about the so-called threat of “whiteness” and how it allegedly fuels racial inequalities in educational settings.
In the second session, teachers are encouraged to rework their course syllabus to transform it into “a tool for racial equity.” For instance, USC’s Syllabus Review Guide suggests prominently adding an image of Malcolm X to the top of the document to convey that “Black thinkers and activists are valued and legitimate sources of knowledge.”
Also of note, the sample syllabus also encourages students to “please let [the teacher] know your gender pronoun preference.”
The third and fourth sessions guide instructors on recording and analyzing race-based academic records to “set actionable equity goals.” Teachers are instructed to draw up charts listing each of their students by race and to record their grades and class attendance accordingly.
The remaining sessions focus on dismantling “the racial colonial foundations of higher education,” eliminating supposed racism from math, and sustaining “equity mindedness” on campus.
For an additional $5,000 on top of the $40,000-$60,000 base package, institutions can contract USC to perform faculty evaluation reviews.
In a review conducted by USC for the College of Alameda, DEI advisors recommended creating “equity activities that explicitly align the race-specific metrics to race-specific activity descriptions,” increasing “classroom-focused equity efforts,” engaging in “equity-minded inquiry,” and focusing on “specific racially minoritized student populations rather than on all students.”
The divisive nature of USC’s program is reminiscent of another concerning faculty training program exposed by Young America’s Foundation in California. UC-San Francisco hired a DEI trainer who, in a lecture to the medical school’s faculty, declared that “whites are psychopaths” and justified violent crimes committed by black teenagers as “just human nature.”
By pushing these divisive initiatives, USC’s ‘Equity-Minded Teaching Institute’ is seeking to create environments of racial tension and discrimination in classrooms throughout America that judge students on the color of their skin rather than their academic efforts.
