A common smear used against pro-life people is that we do nothing to support new mothers and their babies after birth. This lazy lie is used in attempts to frame pro-life activists as evil while justifying the murder of the unborn — and it’s one those who advocate for life hear it all the time.
The other day, however, I saw a new inexplicable approach from a pro-abortion leftist on campus who plainly admitted she supports killing women.
In preparation for our Pro-Life Timeline activism project, my YAF chapter at the University of Florida had a meeting to discuss the importance of using our voices to defend the lives of the unborn and decorate posters to promote our event. The hand-made flyers we created displayed a variety of pro-life messages ranging from “Everyone Deserves a Birthday” to “Abortion Is Murder.” In addition to our Pro-Life Timeline, we are also holding a pro-life supply drive to support new mom and babies in our community by collecting items like diapers, wipes, pacifiers, and other necessities.
Following our meeting, another YAF member and I headed out to hang the flyers around campus to raise awareness for our supply drive. While doing so, we noticed a female student who seemed particularly concerned about what we were doing. She sat close to a bulletin board where we posted a flyer but eventually left. Likely expecting us to be gone, she returned.
In the past, just about every flyer our chapter posts gets quickly torn down by angry campus leftists, so we knew to use a ridiculous amount of tape and staples. After running out of tape during this flyer blitz, I ran to get more from my car and told my fellow YAFer to wait by the bulletin board. He took a seat nearby and waited for the leftist student to approach our flyers. Sure enough, not 20 seconds after I walked away, she started ripping them down.
We approached the leftist student to ask why she was tearing down our chapter’s flyers which promoted helping mothers. We reminded her that abortion kills women and asked if she supported that, to which she replied, “Yeah.” She proceeded to accuse us and our YAF chapter of being racist, a classic go-to for leftists.
My fellow YAFer brought up the racist history of Planned Parenthood, but the leftist student raised her voice to talk over him. She proceeded to state her belief that women deserve the right to “choose to be able to sacrifice a child.”
As extreme as that statement is, it reveals the truth behind all abortions — each one takes away a life, sacrificing an innocent baby so people can avoid responsibility.
Ironically enough, the leftist student continued by saying if we are pro-life we should be going out and helping mothers — exactly what we were doing with the flyers she tore down. I tried to tell her about our supply drive to help mothers and their babies, but she yelled over me and angrily said, “Are you gonna let me talk, or are you gonna speak over a black woman?”
Her reaction displays the damaging mindset spread by DEI on college campuses. The application of racial preferences in rewarding students has created a tiered system, one that led the leftist student to believe my voice is less important than hers due to the color of my skin. Finally through tearing down our flyers after about four minutes, the leftist student declared she would not entertain us and walked away carrying close to a tree’s worth of vandalized flyers.
The infiltration of leftist ideologies on college campuses has made many students incapable of thinking for themselves. The leftist student who destroyed our flyers, like many of our peers, has been fed pro-abortion propaganda with the intent to silence those who stand up to defend the lives of the unborn. Despite this opposition, the University of Florida YAF chapter will not be deterred from celebrating and championing life.
We are grateful for the opportunity to stand with our fellow conservatives and use our voices to remember the millions of babies killed in the womb each year. We will continue our work advocating for the protection of babies and give women the encouragement and support they need to become mothers despite any struggles they may face.
Life is a beautiful gift, and no baby deserves to be a stripped of that gift before they even have a chance to fight for themselves.
