The University of North Dakota Young Americans for Freedom chapter (UND YAF) has been named the January 2025 YAF Chapter of the Month.
UND YAF organized a party at the school’s Union to celebrate President Donald Trump’s inauguration and the Left’s defeat. Despite taking place on a university holiday, the party was attended by dozens of students and featured food, trivia, and a live stream of the inauguration. The chapter also constructed a custom mini-golf course in honor of President Trump’s love for golfing.
While promoting the party, the chapter faced pushback from the school residence halls, which did not give approval for the promotional flyer to go up until the day before the event.
However, the chapter did not let this delay pause its efforts. Instead, they found different ways to reach their peers and invited them to the party. The chapter and their members posted extensively on social media, working around the school’s restrictions.
The school has also repeatedly obstructed the chapter’s progress toward becoming a school-recognized club, including threatening to revoke its recognition on short notice because its faculty advisor was leaving.
Chapter Chair Avery Durfee stated, “After ten months of hassle with the school and being told ‘no’ so many times, I’m so proud that UND YAF is officially a voice for conservatism on our campus.”
This is just the beginning of UND YAF’s spring semester plans. The chapter will participate in YAF’s Pro-Life Timeline and De-Transitioners Day of Visibility activism projects and is also working on hosting a speaker on campus.
The following members were instrumental in the chapter’s success:
Maxwell Eriksrud
Colton Dallman
