A local city council member in the town neighboring the University of Michigan (UMich) is imploring members of the institution’s Graduate Employees’ Organization to demand the abolition of the campus police department and the creation of an “unarmed, non-police emergency response program” to replace it.
The university’s graduate student workers, who are already well paid and receive full tuition waivers among other generous benefits, have been on strike since the beginning of the spring semester. In addition to the students’ demands of a 60% increase in pay, the council member apparently wants them to demand a more dangerous living and working environment.
“I’m here to talk about care-based safety and the abolitionist demands that are still on the table,” City Council Member Desirae Simmons said in a video address.
“We need the investment, here, in Ann Arbor, in the city of Ypsilanti, on UMich’s campus. We know that if we get these investments upfront, that we can build the program that we know we need and that we’ll respond to the community’s request but it takes an upfront investment,” she continued.
The union appeared to accept the request, reposting the video on X.

In addition to its entitled graduate student union, UMich is also home to the “Campus Abolition Research Lab,” which seeks to eliminate law enforcement from campuses nationwide.
Last year at the university, a deranged leftist dressed as a sad clown attempted to smuggle a batch of frozen condoms into Young America’s Foundation’s campus lecture featuring Ben Shapiro.
Thankfully, campus police officers escorted the individual out of the venue before she had the opportunity to throw them at Shapiro or any members of the audience.

Does the frozen condom-wielding clown need to see a therapist? Certainly. But would a therapist have been able to prevent her from causing harm on the spot? Probably not.
